Water Management and Structures ensures safe and effective provincial water control infrastructure and structures, through the delivery of inspection, planning, design, maintenance, rehabilitation and construction activities.  Responsible for the overall management of infrastructure inventory that includes: bridges, large culverts, thru-dike culverts, drains, dams, reservoirs, water control structures, diversions and pumping stations. Provides water management through operation of the provincial water control system, flood forecasting, and development and implementation of emergency response plans.

  • Must be able to work extended hours and periods of time.
  • Must to able to travel to work sites within Manitoba by ground or air transportation.
  • Must have a valid class 5 driver's licence.
  • Must be able to work in an outdoor rough terrain environment, in both winter and summer.
 
Essential:
 
  • Civil Engineering Technology Diploma or graduate from a recognized CADD program with experience. 
  • Experience with the preparation of design and construction drawings (preference will be given for work on earthwork, culvert, water control and/or flood protection infrastructure).  
  • Experience with the use of Computer Aided Drafting software (MicroStation / AutoCAD) for preparation of drawings, design volumes and material balancing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
 
Desired:
 
  • Experience with Digital Terrain Modeling (DTM) and other land surface analysis tools.
  • Experience with use of GIS technology and tools.
  • Knowledge of topographic survey methods (traditional, total station, GPS).
 

Duties:

The Design and Graphics Technician reports to the Senior Design Technologist, and provides drafting services for works related to the preservation, design and construction of infrastructure works on the Water Management Engineering and Construction Capital and Preservation programs. The incumbent will be responsible for processing survey data, detailed earthwork volume designs and concepts, and preparation of drawings for environmental submission, land acquisition, design and construction.
