Manitoba Housing is a crown corporation that provides affordable housing services including rental housing, renovation, and homeownership programs. Manitoba Housing promotes independence and self-sufficiency by providing adequate, safe, and secure housing to people in need.   • Ability to travel throughout Manitoba.
 
Essential:
  • Post secondary education in a relevant discipline, such as Public or Community Relations, Communications, Planning or Public/Business Adminsitration, or an equivalent combination of education and related community relations experience.
  • Leadership skills gained through senior level management experience, including experience supervising and managing employees in a unionized environment and experience negotiating, problem solving, analytical, decision-making, team and consencus building skills.
  • Knowldege of emerging communication technologies and collaborative approaches to community relations planning and delivery.
  • Experience in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of community plans and significant community relations initiatives.
  • Demonstrated financial skills related to financial analysis and program budgeting.
  • Understanding of community development and neighborhood revitalization issues, principles and procedures; as well as issues related to housing community economic development and community development at the neighborhood level.
  • Experience and ability to evaluate, develop, implement new initatives and to respond to evolving challenges.
  • Ability to deal with publicly sensitive issues using appropriate political acumen, as wel as proven ability to effectively and professionally manage the interests of multiple groups.
  • Demonstrated written communciation skills, including the ability to write in a variety of formats, including press releases, speeches, publications, briefing notes/materials and submissions.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and verbal communication skills and experience in responding to media and presenting complex material in a public forum.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight, often competing deadlines.
 
Desired:
  • Knowledge of the Government's priority housing strategies, programs and initiatives.
  • Knowedge of The Housing and Renewal Corporation Act, The Accessibility for Manitobans Act, and the Government's French Language Services Act.

Duties:

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Community Relations & Strategic Initiatives Division, the Director, Community Relations is accountable for leading the development and delivery of a comprehensive community relations plan that supports the Corporations’ strategic and operational initiatives.   The Director’s area of responsibility encompasses stakeholder and community relations, managing BuildingFoundations Bursary Fund, coordinating and disseminating internal and external communications and engagement activities, facilitating production of materials for public, tenants and community stakeholders related to the corporation’s programs and activities, 

The Director, Community Relations fulfils a leadership role and fosters a team oriented environment in providing community relations services and facilitating corporate responsiveness concerning programs offered by the MHRC/Community Relations & Strategic Initiatives Division. This involves providing senior leaders advice, recommendation, consultation, mentoring and support as required an all matters of communication and community relations services. 

The Director also establishes collaborative relationships and networks with a broad range of multi-sector stakeholder groups, including the housing and community development sector, government departments, labour unions and community interest groups.
