Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship, Forestry and Peatlands Management Branch is seeking a qualified individual to fill a Regional Timber Management Supervisor position located in Swan River, Manitoba. Applicants who do not possess all of the qualifications may be considered for a developmental opportunity.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid full Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent from another jurisdiction
  • Must possess or acquire at the next available course a Manitoba Scaling License
  • Must possess or acquire at next available course Standard First Aid, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
  • Must be able and willing to travel to remote locations by various means such as 1/2 ton trucks, ATV's, snowmobiles, boats, small aircraft) within the Province of Manitoba for extended periods of time
  • Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position which includes working alone in challenging outdoor weather conditions
     
Essential:
 
  • Post Secondary education on Forestry or related field of study with experience working in field forestry operations and/or a combination of resource related education, training and experience
  • Demonstrated experience planning, performing, supervising and inspecting timber operations
  • Demonstrated experience planning, performing, supervising and inspecting silviculture operations
  • Experience in mapping and aerial photo interpretation, including the use of Arc GIS and GPS applications
  • Effective verbal communication skills
  • Able to work independently with strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize workloads, multi-task, and work on concurrent assignments with strict deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders and within a team environment
 
Desired:
  • Demonstrated experience and/or training in human resource management including supervision, performance management and training
  • Knowledge and/or experience working with Aboriginal people and communities
  • Experience in Project Management
  • Experience working with the Forest Act, Regulations, and Guidelines
  • Strong written communication skills including experience preparing reports

Duties:

Reporting directly to the Forester and in-directly to the Western Regional Forester, the Regional Timber Management Supervisor Technician (TMS) is responsible for the delivery and evaluation of timber administration, timber tracking, and timber management project in the region.  The TMS Technician will be the Western Region lead auditor of regional timber operations and the lead regional timber scaler for audit scaling, verification and factor sampling.
