The position is responsible for planning, developing and implementing province-wide habitat programs, including Wildlife Management Areas and Refuges, as well as reviewing proposed developments or uses of Crown lands and developing mitigation plans for proposed developments where required.

  • Must be willing and able to work extended hours periodically as required.
  • Must be willing and able to travel periodically throughout the Province of Manitoba.
  • Must be willing and able to work in rural field locations as required, which may includes walking over rough terrain.
  • Must possess and maintain, a valid Full Stage Manitoba Class 5 drivers licence.
 
 
Essential:
 
  • Degree in Biology , Resource Management, or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Knowledge of wildlife biology, wildlife habitat, ecology, and botany.
  • Experience in the administration and delivery of wildlife programs.
  • Effective verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information to technical and non technical audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Effective written communication skills with the ability to prepare reports.
  • Able to work independently with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office or equivalent computer applications.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
     
Desired:
 
  • Knowledge of relevant provincial regulations and policies related to wildlife habitat management.
  • Experience conducting wildlife and botanical surveys.
  • Knowledge of Manitoba's Wildlife Management Area system.
  • Experience working with First Nations and/or Aboriginal communities.
  • Knowledge and/or experience using GIS.
  • Experience using the Biotics Database or similar databases.
  • Knowledge and or experience using GPS equipment.
 

Duties:

Coordinate the review of proposed developments or uses of Crown lands for the Wildlife and Fisheries Branch. Develop mitigation plans for proposed developments to avoid, minimize, or compensate for impact on wildlife habitat. Assist in the designation, operation and maintenance of Wildlife Management Areas, Refuges, Special Conservation Areas and other lands designated for wildlife.Duties may include supervision of seasonal staff engaged in field activities.
