Introduction
Selkirk Mental Health Centre is a 252-bed facility that provides long-term mental health in-patient treatment and rehabilitation services to residents of Manitoba whose challenging needs cannot be met elsewhere in the provincial health care system. Programs include Acquired Brain Injury, Acute, Rehabilitation, Geriatric and Forensics. For more information see www.gov.mb.ca/health/smhc.

Qualifications:
Essential:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Care, or completion of a Rehabilitation Assistant program.  A related combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Experience in a health care setting teaching, supervising and directing patients
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple and competing tasks
  • Effective verbal communication skills to teach, lead and coach patients, employees, families and community partners
  • Strong written communication skills to complete progress notes, records and document observations
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Strong problem solving ability
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to implement treatment programs
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to maintain a safe work environment
Desired:
  • Strong understanding of Psychosocial Rehabilitation Principles and Patient-Centred Care
  • Experience working in a mental health-related field
Duties:
Working under the direction of the Program Manager, and receiving clinical direction from the Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Speech Language Pathologists this position carries out specific therapeutic and rehabilitative interventions for patients based on treatment goals and plans developed by the patient and the treatment team. This includes providing education to patients on an individual or group basis in order to foster independent living, vocational and social skills.
