Introduction

  • Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 driver's licence
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends and overtime as required
  • Must be willing and able to travel across the province with occasional overnight stays
 
Essential:
 
  • Graduation from an approved Resource Management program with related experience in wildfire operations, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Strong knowledge of wildfire management
  • Experience with developing, coordinating, delivering and evaluating programs
  • Experience supervising staff
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor, coach and provide guidance to staff
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision making skills
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work in a team environment and maintain positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders
  • Experience working independently with strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize workloads, multi-task, and work on concurrent assignment with strict deadlines
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook) or comparable software applications
 
Desired:
 
  • Knowledge and understanding of wildfire policy, legislation, guidelines and operational procedures
  • Experience in budget management and financial administration
Duties:
Reporting to the Manager of the Wildfire Program, this position is provincial in scope and is responsible for developing, planning, organizing, and implementing strategic aspects of the Wildfire Program, and associated budgets. This position provides leadership and the direct supervision of programs related to wildfire safety and operations. This includes provincial programming including the Aviation Fuel Program, Air Attack Program, FireSmart and Prevention Program and Ignition Program. The incumbent is the Headquarters interface with regional staff with an especially strong focus on safety, efficiency, problem solving, and the utilization of best practices and has an important role in the development and enhancement of communication and consistency with respect to the Wildfire Program corporate direction. The incumbent is also responsible for duties and requirements as a Provincial Duty Officer.
