Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Successful completion of a post-secondary library technician or archives technician diploma. An equivalent combination of related education/training and experience may be considered
  • Experience working as an archives or library technician, providing client services and/or working with archival records
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work diplomatically and effectively with the public and other stakeholders
  • Ability to work in a team environment and develop strong working relationships with colleagues
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances
  • Effective verbal English communication skills
  • Effective written English communication skills
  • Effective verbal French communication skills
  • Effective written French communication skills

Desired:
  • General understanding of archives and archival work
  • Awareness of Manitoba's history and the history of the Hudson's Bay Company

Duties:
Under the general direction of the Manager, Government and Private Sector Archives (GPSA), the Archives Technician provides technical support for archival functions. The Archives Technician works under the guidance of the Manager and Senior Archivist who provide guidance on project-based work. The Archives Technician participates in functions to make records available to government clients onsite, to the public through the Archives Research Room and through remote access, digitization, and public programming initiatives and assists in the arrangement and description of archival records (e.g. processing, listing records). The incumbent will be part of a small team of technicians who are responsible for the institutional inter-library loan and copy service programs.
