The Public Guardian and Trustee has an exciting opportunity for a junior lawyer to join its team with a view toward a career in the public service. The position of legal counsel offers an exposure to a wide variety of aspects of practice with a focus on civil, estate and family litigation. The successful applicant will provide legal advice and counsel to the Public Guardian and Trustee in its role as decision maker for parties lacking legal capacity, as personal representative of deceased estates and as mandated by legislation. The ideal candidate will have 1-5 years of post-law school experience with litigation matters.

Duties:
Duties include:
a) providing legal advice, opinions and recommendations to the Public Guardian and Trustee on civil, family and estate issues;
b) drafting Court documents;
c) attending and advocating at all three levels of Court in Manitoba;
d) working directly with the Public Guardian and Trustee and her Deputies to provide a wide range of legal services to individuals under the Public Guardian and Trustee’s jurisdiction; and
e) providing education to the public on issues relating to capacity.
