Selkirk Mental Health Centre is a 252-bed facility that provides long-term mental health in-patient treatment and rehabilitation services to residents of Manitoba whose challenging needs cannot be met elsewhere in the provincial health care system.   • Must be a qualified Occupational Therapist licensed to practice in the province of Manitoba by the College of Occupational Therapists of Manitoba (COTM)

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Experience working in Occupational Therapy (including mental health, Acquired Brain Injury and Geriatrics)
  • Experience assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient-centered Occupational Therapy programs
  • Knowledge of best practice standards and patient safety in the application of Occupational Therapy
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Effective written communication skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Experience taking initiative for the purpose of addressing treatment matters 
  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team
Desired:
  • Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation Principles and patient-centred care

Duties:
In accordance with discipline-specific Standards of Practice and under the administrative supervision of the Program Manager, the Occupational Therapist is responsible for assessing patients' functional abilities using standardized and non-standardized instruments. The incumbent will develop, implement and evaluate therapy plans in collaboration with the patient and the treatment team, work within a multidisciplinary team to assist in the discharge planning process, assign duties and responsibilities to be carried out by rehabilitation staff, monitor progress and provide feedback regarding progress, and prepare all necessary reports and documentation, as required.
