In accordance with The Child and Family Services Act, The Child and Family Services Authorities Act and The Adoption Act, Winnipeg Child and Family Services (WCFS) provides a comprehensive continuum of child protection and family support services in Winnipeg. WCFS partners with the community to provide supportive and preventative services to families; protection services to children at risk of abuse and neglect; develops and provides basic and specialized placement services to meet the needs of children in care; provides preservation and reunification services to families when reunification is no longer an option. WCFS is currently seeking qualified candidates for the role of Foster Care Worker. WCFS is currently looking to fill three positions; two regular, full-time and one term, full-time.   

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check and Prior Contact Check.

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Post secondary degree in Social Sciences (BSW preferred). Other combinations of education and related experience may be considered
  • Experience in case management, providing services to children, youth and families, including: assessment, planning, implementation (including counselling), evaluation and closure in a social services environment
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent behaviour including the effects of abuse and neglect
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish, engage and maintain strong relationships with multiple stakeholders 
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage competing priorities to complete service within specified time-frames
  • Ability to work with a diverse population
  • Strong and effective verbal communication skills
  • Strong and effective written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and Outlook)

Desired:
  • Knowledge of the Foster Care Licensing regulations and related standards

Duties:
What you will do:  As a Foster Care Worker, you will report to a Unit Supervisor and will be responsible for providing a range of foster care services, which may include recruitment of foster home applicants, licensing of foster homes, orientation and training for foster parent applicants and support and supervision of foster families. You have superior interpersonal, strong crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills with the capacity to engage and establish meaningful relationships as a means of achieving goals and effecting change.
