Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Extensive  experience performing a full range of executive level administrative duties for three or more direct supervisors within a court or legal environment, including typing and preparing correspondence and complex legal/court documents; maintaining electronic filing and bring forward systems; scheduling meetings both in person and virtually, and making travel arrangements
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to deal effectively with the judiciary, legal profession and other stakeholders with an emphasis on diplomacy, tact and confidentiality
  •  Strong organizational skills with an ability to work under pressure and meet workload timelines.
  • Ability to use own initiative and make independent decisions using discretion.
  • Excellent written communication skills with an understanding of the rules of grammar, punctuation and syntax
  • Excellent proofreading skills with a good understanding of the proper case and statute citation standards
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Experience using legal research applications such as Quicklaw/LexisNexis and CanLII as well as conducting related internet searches
  • Knowledge of financial and budgetary policies 
  • Excellent verbal communication skills

Desired:
  • Experience working with the Court system and with documentation, procedures and processes relating to the Provincial Court of Manitoba and including the Provincial Court Act
  • Effective verbal communication skills in French

Duties:
This position provides executive level administrative support to an Associate Chief Judge of the Provincial Court of Manitoba, as well as puisne Judges as assigned. The incumbent must possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively while acting as a liaison with members of the judiciary, the legal profession (including international, federal and provincial organizations/agencies) senior court staff, and various other stakeholders. While working with minimum supervision, the Judicial Assistant to Associate Chief Judge will work with a team of Judicial Assistants within the Provincial Court. Daily duties include: preparation of reasons for decision; managing the security of confidential judicial material; correspondence and various documentation for court files; researching and reviewing legal texts; scheduling meetings, maintaining files and other related administrative duties. The incumbent will also provide relief assistance to the Chief Judge, as required. Note that this is an excluded position.
