The Construction Services Engineer is responsible for providing direction and leadership to the Construction Section in all matters related to contract administration and construction inspection for new construction, rehabilitation and preservation projects. The position will form part of the Bridges and Highway Structures Management Team and shall contribute to the overall planning, policy and management decisions within the Branch. 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba.
  • Must be capable of performing physical requirements of position, including standing for extended periods of time, lifting up to 25 kg, and wearing protective equipment.
  • Must be able to work in an outdoor rough terrain environment in both winter and summer in extreme temperatures. 
  • Must be able to work extended hours, travel by ground and air and be away from home for extended periods.
  • Must possess and maintain a Valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s Licence.

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Bachelor-level degree in Engineering (Civil preferred).  
  • Project management experience specifically for major bridge and structure projects in the preliminary design and detailed design phases.
  • Experience with tendering, contract administration and construction inspection of complex major and minor bridge projects including construction procedures and methodologies.
  • Experience with bridges and highway structures planning, design, construction, inspection and maintenance.
  • Experience working with health and safety policies, legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge with bridge design principles (structural, hydraulic, geotechnical and transportation), practices and codes.
  • Supervision experience, inlcuding experience leading working groups.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Verbal communication skills including the ability to deal with professional staff, engineering consultants, contractors, major stakeholders and the general public.
  • Written commmunication skills including the ability to prepare complex documents.

Duties:
This position provides direction and leadership to the Construction Section in all matters related to contract administration and construction inspection for new construction, rehabilitation and preservation projects. As a Member of the Branch management team, the Construction Services Engineer provides direction and leadership to Branch staff with emphasis on construction related activities, is responsible for contract administration of complex projects on the capital program, including new construction and rehabilitation projects through the detailed application of hydraulic, geotechnical, environmental, structural and transportation engineering principles.
The Construction Services Engineer is also responsible for managing complex projects on the capital program, from planning through preliminary design, detailed design and construction, and preparing department correspondence as required.
