Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must produce and maintain a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check
  • A valid driver's licence with daily access to a vehicle to transport clients' belongings
  • Ability to travel within the service area (travel may include vehicle (paved and unpaved roads), aircraft and boat; travel may also include overnight stays in rural and remote locations
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and work in adverse environmental conditions
  • Ability to achieve and maintain Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL)

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Experience working in a professional setting with people who have a mental illness, dementia or vulnerable people living with a mental disability as well as their families and service providers.
  • Experience conducting interviews and investigations to locate financial resources, documents and property.
  • Experience conducting physical searches of property or residences, including preparing detailed inventories of goods and belongings.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders such as other government departments, community police services, a variety of professionals and the general public.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work productively as a member of a team
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to speak in a clear and concise manner.
  • Excellent written communication skills including (but not limited to) report writing, letters and memos.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to effectively manage a high volume of work.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook or equivalent programs.
  • Ability to work in hoarding environments, which may include rodent and insect infestations. 

Desired:
  • Experience working with culturally diverse populations.
  • Experience interpreting and applying policies and/or legislation, such as The Public Guardian and Trustee Act (Manitoba) and other relevant policies or legislation.
  • Experience with the safe-handling, transportation and storage of firearms.

Duties:

  • Responsible for the field work necessary to administer deceased estates and client’s affairs
  • Conduct searches
  • Prepare detailed inventories
  • Take possession and control of movable items from a client’s premises
  • Obtain appraisals for personal property and arrange for their sale or disposal
  • Conduct interviews with clients' families and related contacts
  • Procure external agencies/ contractors for property maintenance, repairs, chattel movement, cleaning, shopping, etc.
  • Liaises with stakeholders and service providers, banks, trust companies and businesses
