In support of the mandate of the Minister responsible for the Status of Women, the Manitoba Status of Women Secretariat (MSW) works closely with a variety of organizations in policy and program development for the advancement of gender equality.

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • A minimum undergraduate degree in social sciences, public administration or other relevant discipline. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered
  • Experience working with women and gender equality, including an understanding of historical and contemporary issues faced by Indigenous women, girls and gender diverse people
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective networking strategies with various stakeholders such as Indigenous women's non-profit organizations, gender equality-seeking organizations and private sector stakeholders
  • Experience working with gender and diversity analysis
  • Superior written communication skills with experience composing authority seeking documents
  • Strong verbal communication skills including developing and delivering of presentations and training
  • Strong interpersonal skills including building and maintaining relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders in a diverse environment, coordinating work with colleagues, other departments and central agencies to develop policy responses and solutions based on the priorities of government
  • Experience researching and analyzing complex policies and/or programs
  • Ability to independently manage, organize and prioritize work, including concurrent assignments with strict deadlines

Desired:
  • Knowledge of legislative and policy development and processes

Duties:
Reporting to the Executive Director for Manitoba Status of Women (MSW), the Senior Policy Advisor is responsible for the coordination and support of government action on the issues of Gender-based Violence and of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, which will involve carrying out research, analysis and stakeholder engagement on these topics.

The Senior Policy Advisor will also influence the development of policies more broadly that promote gender equality, improve the economic, social and health status of women, and contribute to ending violence against women. This includes: providing strategic advice, analysis and support in the review and development of legislation, policies and programs affecting the status of women within the Manitoba government and across other provincial, territorial and federal governments in Canada; liaising and building relationships with other government departments and non-governmental organizations; and carrying out projects as directed by the Executive Director. 

This position is in a senior management level that operates and makes decisions in a sensitive and high profile environment with significant public exposure. The Senior Policy Advisor attends Ministerial briefings as required to present on various topics.
