New Motor Carrier Enforcement Officer’s will be hired at the MC1 under-fill level and after 12 months, an MC1 may be promoted to the MC2 classification upon successful completion of the Motor Carrier Training Program and passing the Promotion Eligibility Assessment.

The Motor Carrier Enforcement Officer (MCEO) functions as a Peace Officer, a Federal Hours of Service Inspector, and CVSA Certified Inspector, conducting detailed roadside and weigh station investigations of commercial motor carrier records pertaining to drivers, intra-provincial and extra-provincial regulated commercial vehicles, and intra-provincial short-line railways. The role of an MCEO is to ensure compliance with the requirements of the National Safety Code, The Highway Traffic Act (Manitoba), Motor Vehicle Transportation Act (Canada), the Dangerous Goods Handling and Transportation Act, The Fuel Tax Act, Provincial Railways Act, The Tobacco Tax Act and regulations made under these Acts. These duties and responsibilities are performed while undergoing training during the first year of employment as an MCEO. Upon successfully obtaining all certifications, the incumbent will be eligible for promotion to MC2 status and must thereafter maintain all the qualifications and specific designations required.
