Rural and Northern Child and Family Services Family Support Program has opportunities for casual Direct Service Provider positions. The services you will provide are intended to assist in restoring family functioning, ensuring the health and safety of participants, promoting opportunities for growth and development, and encouraging decision-making. Incumbents may also need to participate in network and systems meetings regarding case planning, facilitation and monitoring of case plans through skill development and liaising and providing written and verbal reports to the case management team. 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Must provide a satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check
  • Must have a valid driver's license, access to a vehicle and the ability to travel within a specified region of Manitoba
  • Ability to work flexible hours of work—days, evenings, weekends, overnights
  • Physical ability to do all necessary duties(may include lifting, physical activities, etc

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Ability to work with children and families in a supportive manner while establishing and maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with children, families, co-workers and agencies.
  • Ability to work with families, children and youth facing multiple barriers such as; financial difficulties, addiction, abuse, mental
  • health, etc.
  • Ability to work with families, children and youth from diverse cultural and social backgrounds and have an awareness of cultural
  • values and differences.
  • Ability to plan, organize, schedule and implement tasks and activities appropriately.
  • Excellent judgement and problem solving skills including the ability to handle confidential, sensitive and non-routine issues in a
  • challenging environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills.

Desired:
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe.
  • Knowledge of community resources and programming.
  • Ability to teach parenting skills, life skills and household management skills.

Duties:
Working as part of a team or independently, the Direct Support Provider helps ensure the health and safety of the participant, supports their learning and development and provide caregivers with respite. They also help with day-to-day decision-making. Duties depend on the specific needs of the participant:

  • Provide respite services for family and other caregivers
  • Create supportive relationships with individuals and their family
  • Provide supervision, companionship and personal care of the participant
  • Promote the safety and well-being of the participant
  • Implement behaviour support plans
  • Assist, support and take part in community services and recreation activities
  • Provide transportation to recreational outings and appointments
  • Teach independent living skills (ex: self care, cooking, community access, budgeting and banking)
  • Provides minimal to moderate personal care needsA detailed position description is available upon request.
