Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure, Health & Safety Branch is mandated to manage risks to the safety, health and well being of employees, visitors and the public arising out of the work activities performed by or on behalf of the Department. The Director is tasked with managing risks related to the Department’s infrastructure and physical assets. 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s Licence 
  • Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Post-secondary education related to Health and Safety or Risk Management. A suitable combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience with the development and implementation of strategic activities related to the delivery of Occupational Safety and Health and Risk Management programming.
  • Experience implementing, developing and maintaining policies and procedures required by the Workplace Safety and Health Legislation and other related acts.
  • Experience with leading and supervising teams to achieve excellent results and goals, and creating and sustaining a positive work environment.
  • Experience providing direction and advice on enterprise, strategic and operational risk management practices to senior executives.
  • Experience liaising and coordinating effectively with various health and safety organizations.
  • Solid conceptual, analytical, decision making and problem solving skills.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Strong written communication skills with experience preparing documents for a variety of audiences.

Desired:
  • Experience with the interpretation and application of legislation related to Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure.
  • Experience in the business continuity planning processes. 

Duties:
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister of the Corporate Services Division, the Director of Health and Safety  Branch is responsible for the delivery of risk management programs, business continuity planning, emergency response planning, the management of insured and uninsured claims involving damage to department property and legal liability against the department, the loss prevention/reduction program and the management of WCB claims for Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure (MTI). The Director is also responsible for the monitoring and compliance of occupational safety and health programs delivered throughout the department.
