Reporting to the Facility Manager, the Senior Groundskeeper is responsible for the maintenance of the grounds. Which includes lawns, trees, roadways, parking lots and sidewalks, to ensure client and public safety as well the appearance of the site.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search).
  • Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Prior Contact Check.
  • Must have a full valid Class 5 Drivers' Licence.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, including heavy lifting, pushing and pulling, crouching, climbing and must be able to work around dust and chemicals, in extreme weather conditions and noise levels.
  • Must be able to work overtime as required.

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Experience at commercial facilities in the operation of equipment including grass mowers, tilling, gardening, snow removal and other related tools and machinery, a combination of experience and training may be considered.
  • Experience in greenhouse operations and crop production.
  • Experience in grounds maintenance including lawn care, trees and flower gardens.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of the Workplace Safety & Health Act, related regulations and federal legislation, safe work practices, procedures and relevant safety policies.
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work independently and establish priorities.
  • Verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with contractors, clients and the general public.
Desired:
  • Experience conducting routine maintenance on equipment including oil changes, spark plugs, fluid levels and tire pressure. 

Duties:
Under the general supervision of the Grounds Manager, the incumbent performs ground maintenance at the Legislative Grounds that includes Memorial Park, Government House and other owned properties in District 1. The position will receive direction and instruction from the Grounds Maintenance 3 and Grounds Maintenance Manager positions with respect to grounds maintenance tasks.
