Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Must have a valid class 5 Manitoba driver's license or equivalent from another jurisdiction
  • Must be able to travel throughout Manitoba for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to perform the physical duties of the position, including working in confined spaces, at heights and within a variance of ambient temperatures
  • Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment       

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Certification as a commercial and industrial gas fitter ("A" License) in the Province of Manitoba or similar from another jurisdiction
  • Extensive experience in the operation, installation, service, maintenance and /or inspection of gas and oil burning equipment
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret and apply Acts, regulations, codes and standards governing the safe installation, operation and inspection of gas and oil burning equipment in Manitoba and Canada
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to foster effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong verbal communication to clearly explain technical information
  • Effective written communication skills to write inspection and/or investigation reports
  • Effective decision-making skills including the ability to exercise judgment and identify solutions to problems
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities with tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of procedures for conducting inspections and/or investigation techniques
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook) or equivalent software programs

Desired:
  • Certified as a Licenced Oil Fitter (“F” Licence) in the Province of Manitoba

Duties:
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Inspector, Gas and Oil is responsible for performing field inspections of new and existing gas and oil burning equipment across Manitoba to ensure compliance with the requirements of various provincial legislation and regulations. In addition, the position is responsible for verifying the licensing and certification requirements of trade personnel.
