Transportation and Infrastructure is seeking highly motivated individuals to work as a Quality Assurance Technologist for vacancies in Brandon and Winnipeg, Manitoba.  This position offers the ability to work independently and at the same time in a team environment to provide the expert and experience technical training, consulting and support to department staff in assisting in the delivery of our highway construction program.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Full Class 5 Manitoba driver’s licence.
  • Must be able to provide and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check.
  • Must be able and willing to travel to work sites within the province by small aircraft, boat, ATV etc.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the duties associated with this position.
  • Must be able to travel extensively and work overtime and extended hours as required.      

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Civil Engineering Technologist Diploma or completion of Department's Level 3 training program. A suitable combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Directly related experience in aggregate, base, concrete, bituminous production and control methods.
  • Experience in quality control and assurance procedures related to the construction industry, including bituminous, paving and base projects.
  • Experience in material testing on bituminous, concrete and base projects.
  • Knowledge of construction specifications, procedures and guidelines.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and courteously with various stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective verbal communications skills.

Duties:
The Quality Assurance Technologist reports to the Quality Assurance Manager and provides quality assurance direction to Engineering & Technical Service staff on Bituminous paving, Concrete paving and Base & Asphalt Surface Treatment (A.S.T.) related projects. The Quality Assurance Technologist provides a consistent interpretation of the department Specifications and Special Provisions of each Tender ensuring contractors are treated fairly and equally on all E&O Bituminous paving, Concrete paving and Base & A.S.T. related projects.
