Through the Manitoba Geological Survey and Mining, Oil and Gas Branches, the Minerals, Petroleum and Geoscience Division facilitates sustainable development of the province’s mineral and petroleum resources. The Geological Survey Branch conducts a wide range of investigations, which include the examination of exposed bedrock, subsurface materials, and surficial sediments including sand, gravel and organic deposits throughout Manitoba. The branch provides data and products, such as geological maps and reports, metallic and industrial mineral deposit reports and databases, mineral resource assessments, targeted geoscience research, development of exploration models, and maintenance of data inventories. By developing an understanding of Manitoba's geology and geological processes, the Geological Survey Branch promotes mineral exploration opportunities and contributes to wise land-use management.

Duties:
This is a highly specialized geoscience position that is responsible for the development, construction and maintenance of provincial three-dimensional (3-D) geological models and databases. Advanced knowledge and understanding of geoscientific principles and bedrock geology is required for complex model development together with effective communication with staff geoscientists to build accurate 3-D geological models, and to expedite geological map editing and cartographic representation. This position works independently and collaboratively with staff, jurisdictional geological surveys and academia to advance geoscience knowledge, as well as inform decision-makers, policy development and land-use decisions.
The position is additionally responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and geological data resources of the Minerals, Petroleum and Geoscience Division. The position is responsible for assigned earth science-based GIS mapping projects and outputs (digital and hard-copy), geological/geospatial databases both locally and online, as well as providing departmental quality assurance/quality control and support and training to staff.
