The Senior Engineer will provide specialized engineering services relating to the Orphaned and Abandoned Mine (OAM) Program. The program works to minimize the long term financial and environmental liabilities for the province that are associated with the identified sites. The position includes developing strategies and seeking approvals to address the environmental and health concerns associated with abandoned mine sites. The position is responsible for the procurement and management of engineering, consulting, construction, and remediation contracts to investigate, assess, design, plan, and implement works and programs.

The incumbent of this position is responsible for the following duties:
• Responsible for procurement of specialised engineering and consulting services relating to the assessment, remediation and mangement of OAM Sites.
• Responsible for contract administration and oversight of complex multifaceted projects, through the detailed application of engineering principles.
• Manages assigned project budgets, expenditures, and timelines appropriately to meet the deliverables of the project.
• Sets priorities and identifies innovative solutions and plans designed to minimise long-term environmental liabilities. Develops options to resolve issues and makes recommendations to support decision making to senior management.
• Maintains and develops technical expertise and knowledge of best practices in the remediation of OAM and Contaminated Sites.
• Represents the province on Federal-Provincial and Territorial working groups and associations and informs advice and recommendations to senior management.
• Works with a variety of communities and stakeholders. Engages and participates in Crown consultations with Indigenous Peoples and communities as per the Crown’s Duty to Consult policies, guidelines and protocols.
